St. Particks Day. DAY 1

St. Patricks Day.

Day 1

St. Patricks Day is my Husbands All time favorite holiday to be honest he probably enjoys St. Pattys Day more than any other Holiday including his own Birthday. Not only can he have his very own "Green Beer" BUT its an Irish Holiday and that is his family's background. I know a little bit about Irish customs but not as much as I would like. So over the next 6 days leading up to St. Patricks Day we will be watching some sort of Irish based movie with some sort of Irish meal. I will post all about our findings and our adventures ;) I will also be posting lots of different things about St. Pattys day recipes, stories, crafts, fun things to do with the kids, etc.

Today being Day 1 I thought I would start off easy by making.....

Classic Irish Boiled Dinner

I eyeball alot of my soups and stews so I will try and give you a more accurate amount but just remember when your dealing with stews and vegetable soups it really doesn't matter how much veggies you put in the only thing that really matters is what you use to thicken your stews. We aren't making stew today though, this is an Irish Boiled soup!

first you want to start off by adding 2 beef bullion cubes to a large pot of water then add

1C frozen corn
2C frozen green beans
1/2 head of cabbage
5 carrots (skins off and slivered)
salt and pepper to taste

then after that has been cooking for a while you want to fry about 2lbs of stewing pork.
start to brown the pork (But do not cook fully) then add about 1oz of Irish Whisky to the pork. Put a lid on the pan and continue cooking until its pretty much done. Then you will add the pork to the soup mixture and continue boiling for 20 minutes or so. then it is ready to serve!

And the verdict is..... AMAZING!!! My husband and brother LOVED it and even wanted more!

This is what mine looked like <3

^^ Before the meat and other veggies were added

^^ everything was added in this picture but half the pot got emptied before I could even take the picture!!

YUM! THAT IS ALL I HAVE TO SAY!!

Just a little bit about St. Patrick and his day ;)

Most biographers agree that the historical Patrick is quite different from the person represented in legend. Some suggest that there may have been several “Patrick” figures that merged into one legend. According to legend, Patrick is the person who drove snakes out of Ireland (in fact, Ireland is snake free because of the last ice age, but the legend perhaps refers to the “serpents” or perceived false gods of the pagan religion, who were eradicated from the island through Patrick’s influence).

DID YOU KNOW!
The Shamrock became apart of St. Patricks Day because St. Patrick used the Shamrock (NOT the clover) to teach about the Holy Trinity!

Ok, so I have another DID YOU KNOW for tonight!!!

I just couldn't hold it back once I found this blog!

So back in Great Britain, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother used to present bowls of shamrock flown over from Ireland to members of the Irish Guards, a regiment in the British Army consisting primarily of soldiers from both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The Irish Guards still wear shamrock on this day, flown in from Ireland

Well it seems the tradition has continued as Kate Middleton now Presents the guards with bouquets of Shamrocks below is photo overload of Kate as well as a video to see Kate presenting the Shamrocks.
